Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch is a 1990 novel written as a collaboration between the English authors Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The book is a comedy about the birth of the son of Satan and the coming of the End Times. There are attempts by the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley to sabotage the coming of the end times, having grown accustomed to their comfortable surroundings in England. One subplot features a mixup at the small country hospital on the day of birth and the growth of the Antichrist, Adam, who grows up with the wrong family, in the wrong country village. Another subplot concerns the summoning of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, each a big personality in their own right. In 2003, the novel was listed at number 68 on the BBC's survey The Big Read.

Review of 'Good Omens' on 'Goodreads'

A cool guy devil and a flamboyantly effeminate angel living on Earth try to stop the end times because they've come to enjoy all of Earth's pleasures (mosly driving fast cars and reading, respectively). Also, there's the anti-christ, a descendant of a prophet who's predicted everything, some random British guy, etc. There's a lot going on here.

I've always been a big fan of Neil Gaiman and so on the heels of reading the Colour of Magic (the first Discworld book from Terry Pratchett) and enjoying it, I decided that it was about time I read Good Omens (a book written by both of them).

As I started reading, I realized that I had tried to read this book probably over a decade ago and dropped it (I don’t remember why).

Good Omens starts off strong and ends strong, and I’ve come to appreciate the middle part more and more …

My favourite apocalypse

How would you feel if you were a supernatural being enjoying the XX century on Earth when Heaven and Hell decide it's time to bring on the Apocalypse? Angel Aziraphale enjoys his bookshop on Earth very much and after so many centuries of companionship he even learnt to appreciate the bon vivant demon Crowley. In this way, they are both very disappointed to learn that the Antichrist was born and that in eleven years' time the Earth will be destroyed. Since they both believe they know more about humans than their counterparts (above and below), they take it to themselves to try and stop the Armageddon. But the Antichrist seems to be missing and people, being people, are not keen on letting the Earth go just yet.

I've loved this book since the first time I read it so many years ago and it's amazing that it keeps growing …

Good Omens is a wonderful book that is truly timeless and thanks to the way that the late Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's writing meshes together.

At first, Good Omens is a fantasy; of an Angel and Demon and the fate of the world that rests in their hands. A tale of a war that has to happen because that is the way, and a child is at the centre of the chaos who can turn all we know on its head. But whilst there is, without doubt, a fantastical element to the story of two beings who should be the worst of enemies but are without doubt each other's closet friend (in my humble opinion) the true magic of Pratchett and Gaimon's ability to write together (of which, I hope there had been so many more opportunities for the two) is that Good Omens makes you really think.

Beneath …

An interesting collaboration

I enjoyed the premise. Gaiman's themes (what happens when the supernatural interacts with our world in almost a commonplace way) and Pratchet's humor were both compelling and made me want to read more of both authors. I felt the premise and set-up were stronger than the ending. I just wanted more of the angel and demon enjoying each other's company.

супер! просто супер: пратчетів гумор, гейманів сюжет і бомбезна постановка з англійськими акторами — смакота, і хочеться більше! p.s. рекомендую спершу прочитати саму книжку — зайде легше.

Review of 'GOOD OMENS' on 'Storygraph'

I read this for the second or third time now, and it was once more a brilliant, entertaining, giggle-loudly-enough-to-confuse-the-dogs adventure. Can't recommend highly enough!

Review of 'Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch' on 'Goodreads'

It begins why heavy British humor, and that's not a bad thing. The issue (not an issue) is that the premise it's not the book. I mean, it is great, but it's really not what you think.
It's funny, brilliant, but furthermore, it's so wholesome it can be painful.

I did not expect to love the book as much as i did, and in these cynical dubious times, a read like this is necessary.

It is, really, a wonderful book.

Review of 'De Bons Presages' on 'Goodreads'
