The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald's third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. This exemplary novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story is of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his new love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession," it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.

The Great Gatsby is one of the great classics of twentieth-century literature.

Concise and easy to read

This is a good classic to read if you'd like to have read a classic. It's about a few good people with tragic flaws, among their friends.

Review of 'The Great Gatsby' on 'Goodreads'

Review of 'The Great Gatsby' on 'Goodreads'

I have read The Great Gatsby several times over the years, I think I was maybe 14 the first time I picked up a very worn copy up at a secondhand bookstore and loved it for its ability to take the reader back in time.

That hasn't changed at all, F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel is a piece of Americana told through the memoirs of Nick Carraway as he's drawn into the world of the mysterious Jay Gatsby and his life on Long Island. Yes, I will admit that the characters are vapid and there is something about each and everyone of them that grates on your nerves but whilst they are insanely wealthy and pretentious? It is Fitzgerald's reminder of their humanity and flaws that first had me loving the book as it came to its end and returning to it every few years for the last few decades.
