World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuriesold underground organization—the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra. Together they embark on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and the most secretive vault on earth…the longforgotten Illuminati lair. (back cover)

Review of 'Illuminati' on 'Goodreads'

Review of 'Angels & Demons' on 'Goodreads'

I still have no bloody idea what's going on but I do have a bit of a thing for comics about vigilantes so this is keeping my interest a little bit.

With the whole killing bad guys for a demon aspect, it would be hard for me not to compare it to Kill Or Be Killed, which is frankly a superior comic.
Maybe if I'd read this before that, then I'd enjoy this a bit more.

Reviewer Note: This review was written after my second read through of the novel!

This isn’t the first time I have read Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons, though the last time I read it was many years ago. While the story felt familiar to me, I also felt as if I was reading the book for the first time – it had just been that long since I had read it. Regardless, there are three points I want to discuss in this review in regards to this book. I want to discuss: Character development specifically in regards to Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca, matters of history regarding interpretation and plausibility, and the questions raised regarding ethics and morality. Out of respect to anyone who may come across this review prior to reading it, I will post my …

Review of 'Angels & Demons' on 'Goodreads'

The story was entertaining enough and made me crave a trip to Rome very very badly, but the writing put me off. If Goodreads had half stars, it would be 3.5, because it is a very action-packed story in the end.

But I rolled my eyes plenty of times, because the characters are just way too over the top. Robert Langdon ist the most unscholarly scholar ever, just like Vittoria, etc. If he hadn't gone so over the top with the characters, I would have liked it more, but then, that's probably a bit much too ask in a book that deals with 'Save the Vatican from ultimate destruction in a 4 hour timeframe'.

Review of 'Angels & Demons' on 'Goodreads'

An otherwise interesting thriller spoiled by cardboard cutout characters - who are virtually identical to the characters of any of the other Dan Brown books out there (excepting of course The Da Vince Code, for that remove the word 'virtually' for the Robert Langdon character).
