JASMINE BASHARA never signed up to be a hero. She just wanted to get rich.

Not crazy, eccentric-billionaire rich, like many of the visitors to her hometown of Artemis, humanity's first and only lunar colony. Just rich enough to move out of her coffin-sized apartment and eat something better than flavored algae. Rich enough to pay off a debt she's owed for a long time.

So when a chance at a huge score finally comes her way, Jazz can't say no. Sure, it requires her to graduate from small-time smuggler to full-on criminal mastermind. And it calls for a particular combination of cunning, technical skills, and large explosions--not to mention sheer brazen swagger. But Jazz has never run into a challenge her intellect can't handle, and she figures she's got the "swagger" part down.

The trouble is, engineering the perfect crime is just the start of Jazz's …

Review of 'Artemis' on 'Goodreads'

Artemis is a thriller about a daring plan to thwart the mafia. So far, maybe nothing new. Except that this story is set on the moon. In the first, and currently only, city on the moon that houses a few thousand people in small quarters.

It's a great mix of thriller and science fiction. Unlike Andy Weir's previous book, The Martian, this one has less science and more fiction. It still paints an intriguing world that could be in our not-so-distant future.

This is a great murder / crime type novel. That’s about it. It’s not unique like the Martian was and there isn’t something we’ve not experienced before here.

If you like criminal and murder mystery set on the moon it’s a great read.

I had flashes back to Places in the Darkness with this one, there was a lot of the lawless frontier going on in both. Inevitably as with [b:Ready Player one|9969571|Ready Player One|Ernest Cline|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1500930947s/9969571.jpg|14863741] and his next book Armada, people will compare this to [b:The Martian|18007564|The Martian|Andy Weir|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1413706054s/18007564.jpg|21825181]. There are similarities, but I think people always go into these things expecting too much. Lightning rarely strikes twice.

So without overly looking at Mars for a comparison I really got into this. Authentically narrated from a female perspective as best I can judge, this was fun, not too hard on the brain and generally exciting in all the right spots. go Andy, a solid entry, even without Mark's shoulders to launch from.

Snarky and fun. It is a great book, it had it's faults...but still a great book. Weir chose to be much more Science Fiction over Science Probable like The Martian, but still a good set of science lingo and details. I had a hard time maintaining empathy with Jazz throughout the book, maybe that was part of the story...but I don't think so. She does set herself as someone that deserves her plight, but you stick with her. Definitely worth the read.
