Historical mining has a lot of fascinating complexities which are mostly ignored in fantasy #ttrpg (definitely including #dnd ) - which I think is a shame, since there's so much cool stuff out there.

Take water - you need to get it out of the mines, but on the other hand you also need lots of water to power the pumps that accomplish this feat - as I've learned during my recent vacations to the Harz mountains.

Oh, and if you really want to make your players hate you, read up on the invention of the Man Engine... 😁

@juergen_hubert I share this fascination. I went down the rabbit hole of Roman mining machinery, then on to water millsC and how they survived in small pockets throughout the middle ages. A good book that I loved is this

@juergen_hubert not a ttrpg, but I always appreciated the attention to detail when it came to things like mining in the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

@juergen_hubert @funes the surprising thing is that they appear to have been *relatively* safe (by the standards of the day). I guess it's about the same as hopping on and off rail cars.

Lots of historic mining around where I live, but I never heard of a man engine before.
