The Maztica #dnd setting had so much cringe.

I mean, the concept of a D&D (or fantasy #ttrpg in general) setting based on Mesoamerican cultures is cool as hell. But I suppose TSR ca. 1990s was neither the right time nor the right place nor the right people to write it.

@juergen_hubert I think I've never read any Maztica material. It seemed like 'fantasy conquistadors' immediately, and the imagery didn't help.

At some point, I tried to use the 100 year time skip between 3E and 5E to turn Maztica into something far more interesting, but ultimately I abandoned it for other projects:
