So many books, so little time (and space)...

The original plan was to work through the piles of unread books in my flat, not to mention the e-books I have and the audiobooks I bookmarked on Spotify/lismio. But somehow, those keep growing. Also, I re-discovered the library. ;)

I mostly read Sci-fi, Fantasy and historical fiction. Also non-fiction (mostly history of one kind or another). I read in English and German and occasionally French.

Zeinab Badawi: An African History of Africa (2024, Ebury Publishing)

For too long, Africa's history has been neglected. Dominated by western narratives of slavery and …

review of An African History of Africa

this book sets the record straight by telling the histories of africa in their own right, not as a footnote or mere challenge to people from outside.

Badawi is visiting and citing contemporary african historians and in this way exploring the (fragile?) self image of the continent.

fascinating read!

V. E. Schwab: A Conjuring of Light (2017)

Witness the fate of beloved heroes--and enemies.

THE BALANCE OF POWER HAS FINALLY TIPPED....

Potential not fulfilled

As the second book in the trilogy was mostly concerned with the wizardry tournament (which has basically zero pay-off in this final book) a lot of story and character development is crammed into this one. Too much probably so that a lot of it remains superficial or comes off as a bit too conveniently construed. Overall, it was a frustrating read. Too bad, the first book promised a lot of potential for the series. I wouldn't recommend it.

Paula Irmschler: Alles immer wegen damals (AudiobookFormat, 2024, mdr/hr)

Toll

Christa Wolf: Was bleibt (AudiobookFormat, German language, 2016, DAV)

Empfehlung!

Elaine U. Cho: Ocean's Godori (2024, Zando)

Ocean Yoon has never felt very Korean, even if she is descended from a long …

It ends basically in the middle of the story! Didn't expect that when I started it. Now I'll have to start the next book - even more books. ;)
