While Space: 1889 always had a tendency to gloss over the evils of Imperialism and Colonialism, this edition had the additional bad idea of having the Confederacy surviving the Civil War.

@juergen_hubert The lack of Slaver Confederacy was refreshing in Castle Falkenstein (there is a native Confederation of Twenty Nations and a voodoo Free State of Orleans).
But on the other hand, the Confederacy is so evil it makes a good villain if we want to subvert the Barsoom source.
I have not read Rebels of Mars (for Savage Worlds) but the summary looks odd. Are the PCs supposed to play "heroic" Condederates?

Having said that, I always appreciated that while the setting was brimful of the usual colonialist perfidies, one could play as a citizen of an uncolonised, spacefaring African country
