Hans von Hoffensthal: Abschied von Oberbozen (Paperback, German language, Verl.-Anst. Athesia) No rating

This text was far too relatable (to me personally) considering that it was written 100 years before I spent my childhood in the same place. It reminded me so much of the great times I had there, that I actually started crying while reading it. To someone who doesn't have the personal connections to this place and stories that I have it might be a bit kitschy and snootily tho.

finished reading Mein Katalonien by George Orwell (Diogenes-Taschenbuch)

George Orwell: Mein Katalonien (Paperback, German language, 1975, Diogenes Verlag) 4 stars

[Homage to Catalonia][1] is [George Orwell][2]'s account of his experiences fighting in the 'Spanish Civil …

I'm glad I finally got around to reading this book! It showed me a unique and very human perspective on things I only knew from historical facts and political discussions. I will probably talk about this book a lot and discuss certain things Orwell talks about. And I'm excited to do that.

Does this still count as finished in 2023? xD Anyway, I had no expectations or knowledge at all for this book, just the trust that the book my friend recommends me will be good. And it really was! It was nice going blind into a book, haven't done that in some time. Now I need someone who also read it to discuss the moral implications of binding with me.

This book was actually on my list to read in 2023, recommended by I friend. I finally came around to start it now, but she mentioned that it is more of a cozy winter-book, so I will try to finish it before spring arrives.

Interesting dive into the origins of vampire novels

4 stars

Very interesting read! Gives some insight into the early stages of vampire novels and how connected it was with sexual desire and queerness from the very beginning. And although the perspective on queerness is definitely a negative one, I still think there is something to be gained from this in the name of reclaming what they use against us. Can highly recommend it, especially since such a short read.
