Giant 16th-Century ā€˜Colossusā€™ Sculpture In , Has Entire Rooms Hidden Inside.
This epic colossus, half man, half mountain, was erected in the late 1500s by renowned Italian sculptor Giambologna.
The rugged, mountainous statue hides several rooms with different functions. The monster holds spewed water from an underground stream.

The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink, bordered by white, and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival faƧade by Emilio De Fabris. The cathedral complex, in Piazza del Duomo, includes the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile. These three buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historic center of Florence and are a major tourist attraction of Tuscany. The basilica is one of Italy's largest churches, and until the development of new structural materials in the modern era, the dome was the largest in the world. Since I am now trying to learn #Italian, my compulsive habit of picking up any travel books I find on public bookshelves might actually pay off - since a fair amount of these are about #Italy .

Still not sure where in Italy I should go for future vacations - apart from #Venice, of course, which I want to research for a future book I plan to write. I'll probably start with the northern parts of the country, since I'll need to travel by train from northern Germany...
