Is Britain going backwards on racism?
Much of that depends whether you think it has moved forward in anything more than superficial terms in recent years.
And to be frank it doesn't much matter what I think, if, the victims of racism think things are getting worse, then whatever the claims of our political class, they are!
Certainly, the recent call for the deportation of settled migrants suggests a normalisation of racism that is highly worrying.
Is Britain going backwards on racism?

DEI -is- a merit based principle. DEI means that more candidates are brought forward to be assessed for their merits, before being rejected for their skin, their handicap, their gender, their sexual orientation, etc. It brings all candidates to the same line in the hiring process as the straight white man (like Poilievre) who would otherwise be put first. The "comfortable" candidate who will "fit in" (regardless of their qualifications), especially the ones with all the same "connections".
DEI does not "force" anybody to be hired, it merely keeps them in the competition. Anti-DEI rhetoric is inconsistent with merit-based principles, period. If you're scared of DEI, then you're scared of competition and want to remain safe in your privilege.

"Body camera footage released from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in upstate New York earlier this month caught federal agents calling immigrants “animals” and bragged about the number of “illegals” detained — despite that not being the case in at least one instance."
"“I would not let anybody out of their cells, so we did it in an orderly fashion, had them all lined up. It’s bathroom time, or it’s f— brush your teeth time, or it’s food time. Other than that, nope, your a— is staying in there. ‘But you can’t do that.’ I absolutely can. ‘I need a phone call.’ No you don’t. ‘I need to go to medical.’ Nope, you look good to me,” the agent said, mimicking a conversation with a person detained.
He continued to say that they kept the bathrooms inside the cells where people were held.
“They’re, they’re animals anyway. That’s what I would tell my kids all the time,” said the agent, who said he worked in the “intelligence unit.”"
