I have a menness inside me, real as an organ.

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas." As her family lay dying, little libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived--and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her. The Kill Club is a macabre secret society obsessed with notorious crimes. When they locate Libby and pump her for details--proof they hope may free Ben--Libby hatches a plan to profit off her tragic history. For a fee, she'll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club . . . and maybe she'll admit her testimony …

This book is really dark. I've heard that Sharp Objects is darker which only makes me want to read it now. Anyway, this book is about a woman who has given up in life because life has been too damn rough on her. Understandable but very sad. Till one day she's desesperate for money -never worked in her life, too depressed to cope with it-, and a strange guy named Lyle invites her to talk about the murder of her family in which she's the sole survivor.
This is how her life starts to have a new meaning: find out what the hell really happened with her family and if her brother -who's now in jail- is actually the killer.

This book only gets better the more you read it, because you want to know more and since you also have the perspectives of Patty -her mother- and Ben -her …

Another Gillian Flynn novel that I really enjoyed greatly. Compared to Gone Girl and Sharp Objects it felt...gentler somehow, but it was definitely on the dark side again.

The story is split into two parts, with chapters alternating between Libby Day in the present time and her mother Patty and her brother Ben on January 2, 1985. In the night from January 2 to 3, someone killed all members of the Day family in a massacre, with only 7-year old Libby able to escape the murders. Her 15-year old brother Ben was arrested for the crime, mostly because of Libby's testimony.

In present time, Libby lives from day to day, aimless, the perpetual victim, living off the royalties of being a survivor. This changes when the Kill Club enters her life, offering her money to speak about the massacre. The Kill Club believes that Ben is innocent and want to …

Couldn't put it down. Great voice and writing. Kept me in suspense until close to the end and I can usually figure out "whodunit" pretty quickly. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes a dark tale with plenty of blood, mystery, and a nice touch of humor mixed in.
