Does a good job of explaining some things in the film. Some character drawings were off, though; occasionally it looked like an unfamiliar character had a familiar face. Also, not once does the book use the word "phenomenon", even though there was only maybe one place where "phenomena" was correct. (A few other wince-worthy errors, too, like "Romulas".)
Overall, nitpicking aside, an enjoyable book. Has an extreme case of typical Star Trek coincidence-itis, and some major scientific flaws, but since the film plot also doesn't fit with the rest of Star Trek it's (barely) forgivable.
