Dah DJM reviewed The Last Colony by John Scalzi
End of the trilogy
4 stars
Found as EN "boxed set" and read the trilogy (with Old Man's War & The Ghost Brigades) in less than a week (nights mainly). Obvious ending, but better than #2 IMHO
The Last Colony is a science fiction novel by American writer John Scalzi, the third set in his Old Man's War universe. It was nominated for a 2008 Hugo Award in the Best Novel category.

This is a great book. I like the story and the humour.
Some of descriptions of aliens remind me of the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.
My only suggestion is to pretend that this book series had only three books.
Probably my favorite old man's war book yet. There was plenty of action but not overheating and Scalzi stepped up his political game a bit in this one. Each of the characters were believable and realistic. Great read.
Good ending to the trilogy
Somehow the weaker of the three. While the story is solid, there are less hurdles to jump, making it kind of plain. Slightly disappointing way to finish the trilogy.
