Some brief moments of beautiful writing but mostly dull and melodramatic. I just wasn’t into the vibe but I can see how people can be enamored by it.

Interview with the Vampire is a gothic horror and vampire novel by American author Anne Rice, published in 1976. It was her debut novel. Based on a short story Rice wrote around 1968, the novel centers on vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, who tells the story of his life to a reporter. Rice composed the novel shortly after the death of her young daughter Michelle, who served as an inspiration for the child-vampire character Claudia. Though initially the subject of mixed critical reception, the book was followed by many widely popular sequels, collectively known as The Vampire Chronicles. A film adaptation was released in 1994, starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, and the novel has been adapted as a comic three times.

I'd read this gem when it came out in paperback, and I was 12 years old. I loved it so much, I did an except of the interview as a skit in camp that summer.
za pierwszym razem 4/5, potem 3,5/5
Absolute classic - I always find myself captivated by Louis's sorrowful tale of his long existence and how damaged a creature such as he actually is.
I read this book many, many years ago and wondered if I'd enjoy it as much now as I did then. I mostly did. I was a bit disappointed with Simon Vance's narration, though. That surprised me. I've loved his work on several other books but not this one.
I'm glad I reread the book but have no desire to keep going with the series.
I gave it 3.5 on BookLikes.
