Some brief moments of beautiful writing but mostly dull and melodramatic. I just wasn’t into the vibe but I can see how people can be enamored by it.

Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly erotic, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force-a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write. --back cover

I'd read this gem when it came out in paperback, and I was 12 years old. I loved it so much, I did an except of the interview as a skit in camp that summer.

Absolute classic - I always find myself captivated by Louis's sorrowful tale of his long existence and how damaged a creature such as he actually is.
I read this book many, many years ago and wondered if I'd enjoy it as much now as I did then. I mostly did. I was a bit disappointed with Simon Vance's narration, though. That surprised me. I've loved his work on several other books but not this one.
I'm glad I reread the book but have no desire to keep going with the series.
I gave it 3.5 on BookLikes.
