Although reading post apocalyptic fiction during COVID-19 might not be for everyone, I decided that it was time to finally read The Stand. (It is about a super flu bug that kills off most of the world's population.) However, this type is fiction is no stranger to me, and Stephen King writes very well. Some of the descriptions of events and feelings are not for the faint of heart, or the easily shocked.
The book took a while to read. The edition I read is the longer version. When the book was first published, something like 400 pages were removed. In this edition, they are returned. I do prefer unabridged things. The characters feel very real, and I did have trouble with that at first, because one does expect many people to die in a book like this. And many of them did. But they were worth knowing. I cried …

However, if none of that has put you off, I highly recommend the book.
