"From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches, a novel about what it takes to become a vampire. Set in contemporary Paris and London, and the American colonies during the upheaval and unrest that exploded into the Revolutionary War, a sweeping story that braids together the past and present. On the battlefields of the American Revolution, Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment of political awakening when it seems that the world is on the brink of a brighter future. When Matthew offers him a chance at immortality and a new life, free from the restraints of his puritanical upbringing, Marcus seizes the opportunity to become a vampire. But his transformation is not an easy one and the ancient traditions and responsibilities of the de Clermont family clash with Marcus's deeply-held beliefs in liberty, equality, and brotherhood. Another masterpiece of writing from Deborah Harkness that pulls you back into the world first experienced in the wonderful All Souls Trilogy.

You learn so much about the life of Marcus in Time's Convert both in the present day and the past and I loved every minute of it. He was intriguing in the first three books and I, like so many others I imagine, had wanted what made Marcus become the man he is - and Time's Convert succeeded in so many ways.

The transition from warm-blooded to vampire for Phoebe is fascinating and somewhat gruesome at times (and why would it not be) and I liked the comparison to that of a baby being born and developing their knowledge and understanding of basic needs. It's a new and original idea and one that makes sense.. Although Phoebe 's childlike petulance irritated me, that too made sense and I …

More time with the De Claremonts - what's not to love?

I love the world Deborah Harkness created in the All Souls Trilogy, and the characters she populated it with are amazing. I've been hoping for a chance to see how life has treated the Bishop-De Claremont family and this return visit does not disappoint!

We learn what Marcus' life was like before he became a vampire as well as the first several years after he was reborn. Through Phoebe's part of the story we discover just what a newly reborn vampire must do to adapt to their new lives, and I truly love that there's so much more to it than typically has been in other vampire stories - it gives the transformation serious gravitas and makes it feel like the monumental event it should be. And, of course, we spend time with Diana, Matthew, Becca and Philip who …

This is a sequel to the All Souls Trilogy, which I enjoyed immensely. Time's Convert was good, but...not as good. Don't get me wrong, though, it was still candy to me, and I'm still impressed with the pacing and the fact that she's obviously done her historical research. There were some parts that flirted too long with being silly and corny, and also some words that were overused, in my opinion. Mostly, it was an interesting look at Marcus's prior life and his chosen mate's decision to be with him--forever. Evermore. Evermore. (You get the idea.)

That's not to say that I won't be tempted by another book in these series, because I am a bit curious about the twins...Deborah Harkness has yet to resolve that. So, if you loved All Souls and want more, this is a bit of fun, and nothing more.
