Days before his release from prison, Shadow's wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.
Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.
Scary, gripping and deeply unsettling, American Gods takes a long, hard look into the soul of America. You'll be surprised by what - and who - it finds there... --back cover

ще раз переслухав — цього разу, начитану в ролях ювілейну 10-річну версію новелли. так само добре!
One of the most amazing books I've ever read. Perfectly written and the character of Shadow is wonderfully crafted an fleshed out over the course of this monumental story. Bravo Neil Gaiman!
Second reading and I loved it all over again.
I'm slowly learning that my appreciation for Neil Gaiman lies solely with the Sandman graphic novels. Although similar in theme, American Gods does not deliver the goods in the same way. I can't explain what it is I'm missing, but halfway through the story, reading is more of a chore than it is an enjoyment.
Perhaps in a shorter format this would've worked...
