All the horrors of Hell stand between Snorri Ver Snagason and the rescue of his family, if indeed the dead can be rescued. For Jalan Kendeth, getting back out alive and with Loki's key is all that matters. Loki's creation can open any lock, any door, and it may also be the key to Jalan's fortune back in the living world. Jalan plans to return to the three w's that have been the core of his idle and debauched life: wine, women, and wagering. Fate however has other plans, larger plans. Satisfying conclusion to this trilogy about the likeable anti-hero Prince Jalan, liar, coward, cheater, thief.

In order to stop a catastrophe this unlikely hero has to be the one to turn off the Wheel of Osheim, a Large Hadron Collider in what was formerly known as Leipzig, before the Builders set off a nuclear disaster that changed the world.

It's really more post-apocalyptic fantasy than anything else in this installment, with lots of necromancy to boot. I can't say I fully understood how it all worked, and how the Blue Lady was so dangerous, but it was a fun ride with Jalan and Snorri, and I enjoyed it a lot.

It's pretty frustrating to get all the way through this series to get stuck with this. I love the world that is set up, but for some reason Lawrence decided to try to explain why magic exists, but I felt it was half-hearted and ruined some of the appeal.

I also had a real hard time understanding the timing of this book. How did it fit with the Thorns timing?
