Like a lot of stories written for magazines from the 1950s this is more high fantasy then science fiction. By that I mean it's total fantasy to think monsters live on Venus. This is common thou in the early years of science fiction. The story is pretty good really, but having a fantasy setting on anything in our solar system is just far fetched. You have to suspend believe a bit too much.

Now, the two main characters were great, they had conflict, and drama between them. But by the end of the story they worked together and saved the day. Each helping the other. I have no problem with that type of conflict, my real problem with these type of stories really are because of the fantastic nature of them. I don't think anyone would write a story in which Venus is mostly water and has large glowing sea monsters that our heros are tasked with kill. I just don't think that makes a good story not in the world of today.

Needless to say, the heroes win, save themselves and head back to Earth to make a full report.

It's an ok story if it was set on a world outside our system it would probably be more believable.
