Hello, I just imported my GoodReads data and am giving federation a try. I like to read things on the "100 best novels/classics/whatevers" lists. I like to think that makes me an educated gentleman, but I probably just means I'm a dork.

Carlos Ruiz Zafón: The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) (Paperback, 2005, Penguin Books)

Barcelona, 1945: A city slowly heals from its war wounds, and Daniel, an antiquarian book …

I was gifted a copy of this for my birthday. I'm about 5 chapters in. Enjoying it so far.

Tom Schaller, Paul Waldman: White Rural Rage (2024, Random House, Incorporated) No rating

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A searing portrait and damning takedown of America’s proudest citizens—who …

Meh. Not a lot I didn't already know. Rural people vote for one party, and don't really demand anything in return, and so they don't get much of anything.

Walter Pater: Marius The Epicurean (Hardcover, 1939, The Modern Library) No rating

I sort of inadvertently became a collector of old Modern Library hardcovers. I was in my local used book shop this weekend nearly bought one before realizing I already had a copy.

To prevent this from happening in the future, I considered making a spreadsheet of which titles I already have, but then I realized I could make a list or shelf here on BookWyrm. I'm not sure which approach is best. Probably a list(?).

Feedback / links to relevant documentation appreciated. #modernlibrary #books #oldbooks #bookwyrm #bookcollection

Gerald Horne: Jazz and Justice (2019, Monthly Review Press) No rating

I heard of this book from an episode of the Upstream Podcast (www.upstreampodcast.org/). I'm not very far into it yet, but it is fascinating. Lots of discussion so far about the extent of racism and organized crime in the early Jazz scene.
