Amy Tintera: Listen for the Lie (2024, Celadon Books)

What would you do if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone …

Enjoyable, easy read

Compared to the previous book I read, the tone and atmosphere is a bit less serious. Nevertheless it's an enjoyable book that's easy to keep reading. Lots of small-town relationship drama in a contemporary setting.

Holly Jackson: Five Survive (Paperback, 2022, Random House USA Inc)

Great "real-time" closed circle mystery

I started reading this book as I needed something to read, and my wife recommended it to me. It was better than I expected even! Draws you in quite easily, makes you want to know more, and whilst I was expecting plot twists, I could not have anticipated the story as it unfolded. The few technical details that are in there are pretty factually correct too, which I can appreciate, as many stories neglect that which can be distracting if you know the subject matter. Easy to pick up and an enticing read that I can recommend, and I'm saying that as someone who's long past being a young adult.

reviewed Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline (Ready Player One, #2)

Ernest Cline: Ready Player Two (Hardcover, 2020, Ballantine Books)

An unexpected quest. Two worlds at stake. Are you ready?

Days after Oasis founder …

Enjoyable extension to RPO

If you liked Ready Player One for all it's geeky 80's references and the OASIS, you'll likely appreciate this book as well. It's nothing ground-breaking, but a very enjoyable read if you liked the style of RPO. I certainly liked this book better, than the film-adaption of RPO, it feels true to the earlier established universe. There are some common tropes and some bits can be predictable, but I was also pleasantly surprised in some sections and I'm happy with its ending.

Andy Weir: Project Hail Mary (Hardcover, 2021, Ballantine Books)

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission--and if he fails, humanity …

My rating

One of, if not the best sci-fi book I've read in recent years! Great story, well backed-up science-fiction, and just an exciting read overall.
