So many books, so little time (and space)...

The original plan was to work through the piles of unread books in my flat, not to mention the e-books I have and the audiobooks I bookmarked on Spotify/lismio. But somehow, those keep growing. Also, I re-discovered the library. ;)

I mostly read Sci-fi, Fantasy and historical fiction. Also non-fiction (mostly history of one kind or another). I read in English and German and occasionally French.

Doris Lessing: The golden notebook (2007, Harper Perennial)

The story of the inner and outer life of Anna, a young writer, single mother …

Great stuff! I'm really liking it so far even though its setting is very far removed from my life experience. It is a lot, though, both the length and the density of the narrative.

My friends gifted me a subscription to Starbright, Illumicrate's new sci-fi quarterly box. This was the first book in that line. Very much looking forward to it.

Impressive

A book so good it was banned at West Point! While books banned by the Trump government deserve to be read for that reason in general this autobiography of Maya Angelou's childhood and youth especially deserves it. You get an insightful and very thorough look into life in the rural South, the pervasive racism, the importance of church life and how people use it in their own ways and an adventure story of running away. I feel like every American should read/listen to it but it's also very impressive for everyone else. If you like audiobooks try to get this one which is read by Maya Angelou herself which adds another layer to the story being told.

Empfehlung

Intriguing

It's been a while since I read this book but never got around to write a review - a bit unfairly because it deserves more buzz. It's a mix of several types of stories that are popular in sci-fi: cozy (getting to know the crew and some of the guests), crime thriller in space and a dash of space opera. I liked how it was gradually revealed what kind of society (authoritarian/totalitarian) the story is set in. The mysteries sorrounding the ship and the conference onboard held my attention. I also liked the little pamphlets between chapters. Recommended!
