A remarkable exploration of family, society, and what makes us human, HUMAN will take you from the post-apocalyptic world of the near future, to the two very different societies that emerge 15 million years later, where those few surviving individuals have evolved to become something that we might not fully recognize as human.

When Ayla’s research takes her to a remote river in Canada’s far north, Chris brings their daughter to an isolated island in the southern Pacific. Though at opposite ends of the earth, they both awaken one morning to black skies, and a night that doesn’t end. Slowly, Ayla and Chris begin to realize that humanity has been inexplicably wiped out, and only …

Hmm, the biggest difference between apocalyptic disaster and alien invasion movies and real life appears to be, in apocalyptic disaster movies there is almost always (usually) a functioning Federal government of some sort heroically trying to save citizens. 😢

This is an interesting read. As someone who spent at least some of my youth in evangelical circles, I'm very familiar with this endtime theology. Even theologically speaking, it's pretty much nonsense.

I remember well the Left Behind series who popularised it anew, and the tendency to believe the fictional narrative of those books.

Make no mistake. This type of fundamentalism is extremely dangerous when mixed with actual power.

John Scalzi (duplicate): When the Moon Hits Your Eye (AudiobookFormat, 2025, Audible Studios)

The moon has turned into cheese.

Now humanity has to deal with it.

Amusing, but doesn't live up to its potential

Falling In Love With Fallout (Amazon Prime)

If I were to sum up
Fallout on Amazon Prime it would be this quote by the character Maximus:

_Everyone wants to save the world, they just…they disagree on how._

I just finished binge-watching the entire season (which Amazon thankfully uploaded all at once) I can say this whole show was a horrific feast for the eyes.

Fallout is a show that mixes humor with gore, while some of the science fiction themes are more fantasy than science, it faithfully remains within the genre as it explores an apocalyptic alternative future history of humanity that is not kind to those without power.

I enjoyed following the adventures of all three protagonists from the show as they were each unique:

- Maximus: is a very conflicted character with something to prove to the world
-
Lucy: is …

Classic, post-apocalyptic, dystopian fiction is a type of fantasy where we’re dreaming of starting over in an empty landscape from a societal and cultural slate wiped clean by some devastating event that we don’t have to feel guilty about having happened—at least, it is according to our very own @arielkroon, who does, yes, have a PhD in it.* Yet, at the same time, these fantasies generally suffer from a strange lack of imagination, wherein the characters use the “fresh new start” to recreate the same old society, albeit with themselves at the top, with the same old systemic socioeconomic, environmental, and structural problems.

It’s almost as if it is easy to dream up apocalypse but next to impossible to envision a different way of living. Although a failure of imagination would most likely look different for solarpunk, can solarpunk creators and dreamers of a positive future avoid …

The Last Fleet - the back cover reads a lot like
The last of humanity are fleeing across space, pursued by the Corax, an implacable alien intelligence that destroyed their civilization. They're outnumbered and outgunned. Supplies are running low. Corax doppelganger undermine the fleet from within......

Almost sounds like something I've seen, something I've heard, something that is having a reboot soon(ish)...... hmmmm

People love to watch a slow simmering .
Until a poca lypse's you right up side the head, it's all fun and games.
We think: "Poor suckers ... Ain't never gonna happen to me."
But it's happening to us all, y'all.

@kev I can recommend a couple of 'apocalypse' books:

Earth Abides (1949) - The novel tells the story of the fall of civilization from deadly disease.

Alas, Babylon (1959) - The novel deals with the effects of a nuclear war on a fictional small town in Florida.

Both can be found, available for free in various formats online, Google is your friend!
