Did your IT job interview go amazing? You thought they loved you? Do you remember laughing with a friendly interviewer and thinking you had made a connection? Yet, a week later, they rejected you? You are not alone. most people genuinely don’t understand this process anymore. Please don't beat yourself up, be kind to yourself. The whole job market is like this. I speak from experience.

Wearing a respirator in public feels like wearing a seatbelt in a car. It's less physically comfortable than not wearing one, but I do it because it is an exceedingly simple way for me to prevent the very real possibility of a horrible death or disablement.

Of course, masking has the incredible additional benefit of protecting not just yourself, but also other people you come in contact with (and people who they come in contact with!— breaking the chain of transmission can have a big impact).

Care for yourself and your future self. Care for others more medically vulnerable than you. Do something tangible to fight against the normalization of ableism and eugenics. Please wear a high quality mask that fits your face.

(If cost is an issue, find your local mask bloc at maskbloc.org and contact them for free supplies.)

Just had a lengthy conversation with my mum about something in my life that seemed impossible to solve and understand.
It's all sorted in my mind now. I feel much better and lighter.

You forget that your mum was your first friend, and probably the most loyal one. <3

Here's what I'm currently reading. From the title and small size you might think it's just fluff but nope.

It's about unlearning the assumptions of capitalist, white supremacist society in order to learn to love yourself as a radical act.

This little book is bringing me back to myself. Every page is now covered in notes, highlights, and thoughts. It's making me confront a lifetime of self-negation, guilt, and shame. It's helping me get to a place where I can finally feel that I deserve joy.

Some books really can change your life, and this for me is one.

Sixty Things You Can Do Without a Smartphone - my latest mental health zine, now available at https://littlebetterzine.com

This zine includes a long list of free and low-cost activities that you can do while taking a break from smartphones and social media.

The idea for this zine came from the many conversations I’ve had with patients who feel addicted to their phones. If that sounds like you, I hope you find this little guide helpful!

I suspect very few people appreciate how much patience and discipline it takes to rest.

To do nothing.
To allow yourself to be bored.
To let socializing wait.
To ignore your to-do list.
To tell yourself over and over again:
'I am not doing nothing I am resting. Resting IS a verb, and it is the thing I most need to do right now."

Any good meditation apps that are very low price? I can't afford Headspace at the moment (which I used and loved once upon a time). I need to calm my brain, and get my concentration back. I also can't do it on my own.... yet. That will come back.

Tip

Make an ongoing list of positive actions that are within your power to take.

They can be financial, like donating to your local food bank; they can be about volunteering with an organization or helping a neighbour; they can be as simple as checking in with a vulnerable friend. Whatever works for you.

When you feel overwhelmed, give yourself the gift of doing something from the list and making a difference.

I really do this. It's the duct tape that holds my life together.
