Well Researched and Written

I would have given the book 5 stars if I was fascinated by the subject matter, but near the end, I realized I wasn't that invested, mainly because I had started reading the book years after the height of the #MeToo movement and already knew what happened to Weinstein. Overall, it thoroughly documents frustrating injustices with good prose.

Wortgewandtheit

Keine leichte Kost. Für mich ganz wichtiges Buch.

We said Black Lives Matter.
You said all lives matter.

We said bodily autonomy
You said your body my choice.

We said trans rights.
You said what is a woman.

We said .
You said .

We said sensible gun control.
We said stop the bullets.
We said kids are dying.
We said schools should not be war zones.
You said thoughts and prayers.

Now you say Tesla protestors are terrorists.
So I'm going to hold your hand while I say this.
All cars matter.
Your car my choice.
What is a car.

Thoughts and prayers.

The New York Magazine cover story about is eloquent, detailed and deeply horrifying. Many trigger warnings if you choose to go into it. But I'm glad I read it as a (former, I guess) fan of his work, especially Coraline and Sandman.

The whole situation gives me new empathy for former Harry Potter fans. https://www.vulture.com/article/neil-gaiman-allegations-controversy-amanda-palmer-sandman-madoc.html

Heute schon. Genau deswegen.

I was recently called a misandrist for the first time in my life. Why? Because I told a man that men needed to “behave better”. He screamed “not all men!” At me and then demanded I show more deference and acknowledgement that there are “good guys out there”.

This was someone I considered a friend - so I tried to explain that of course there are good guys - but we don’t know who they are. We have to approach EVERY man with caution because of the constant threat of rape and abuse.

I explained that’s why we say men have privilege - because they don’t have to move through life with that constant threat. They don’t have to be on guard ALL the time. They aren’t judged by what they wear, how many kids they have, how much they drink or how late they were out at …
