I once said ICE was stealing people's property. Everything from electronics (phones, Laptop computers), jewelry, and even clothing.

A few people said, I was making things up. 🙄

What is in the news today? ICE caught stealing jewels and gold (see URL below).

The things I learn about while working for Meta (Facebook) — I should add they're also stealing people's cars to conduct raids.

The most annoying thing about corporate surveillance to me is the arrogance of the prediction mechanisms.

These algorithms build a model of me based on my clicks from three years ago and then try to trap me in that loop forever. They show me music they think I'll like, and news they think I'll engage with, and videos they think will enrage me enough to keep me hooked to their platforms. They are actively trying to flatten my personality into something easy to monetize.

As most people I've seen say out loud, "Privacy as a concept is way beyond hiding secrets. A part of it also means preserving your capacity to change. To be surprised. To be inconsistent."

If I could tell every human one thing, it would be to actively refuse to be a predictable data point. Mess up their metrics. In whatever way you are

Big Tech platforms routinely censor any mention of the , so I've started designing, printing, and placing these stickers around town.

No idea if they get any scans, but I figure simply getting the word "fediverse" out there might raise the consciousness a little.

Any ideas for slogans that might pique the interest of facebook-addicted normies?

Edit: I'm so glad this post has gotten so much attention, because I think it's a good idea, and I'd love to see others run with it. I know nothing about making stickers and wouldn't have made these had I not been gifted a small toy printer with a few rolls of sticker paper. Hopefully someone out there can do a more professional job of it :)

A lot of people are resistant to any kind of business uses for the , but consider this:

- While most of us here are rightfully scornful of , the notion of a "market economy" is not going to go away. There are innumerable small to midsized businesses in the world who _aren't_ like the Capitalists we know and loathe - they haven't established any monopolies, they haven't managed regulatory capture, and they are oppressed by Big Tech just as much as ordinary people are.

- For many such businesses, maybe even the majority, a Business Page is more important than a website, and thus many such small businesses _only_ have a Facebook Business Page, since it is far easier to set up than hosting your own website on your own domain, it is easier for your customers to find you there

Absolutely loving this by Sarah Wynn-Williams. I thought I’d like it for the horror stories about the management but the writing and pacing is great!

I saw her speaking briefly at a thing with @pluralistic at The Barbican in London where she couldn’t say much because of a non disparagement clause in her Facebook contract!

If you want to know why spaces like this are so important read the book! Her description of suddenly makes the world make a terrible kind of sense

Just started reading this after going to a talk at the barbican with @pluralistic Sarah Wynn-Williams and Chris Morris!

Only a few chapters in but so far a really good read! It is about Sarah's work at Facebook as an executive. I had the absolute pleasure to meet her!

"fraudulent ads are more profitable for Meta than non-scam ads."

This digest by @pluralistic of a big leak published by of internal memos, on how the company facilitates mass scamming worldwide as the profits they get from it are far superior to the fines they risk paying, is extraordinary... All users should read this and find a way to move their networks away from this terrible company.

Tucking into this one because @pluralistic@mamot.fr told me I had to. I don't know how nuts it's going to be, but the first couple chapters start out with some truly wild stories.

Promoting because the author is not allowed to.

By pure coincidence, @pluralistic 's reminder that everyone (Americans included) needs to reduce their tech dependence on the American broligarchy happened during a major AWS outage.
