Sometimes a book tries way too hard to be what it is. I get it, it's a space parody of Star Trek. It's episodic, and those hinge on sometimes absurd plot points. But Willful Child really really really wants you to know it's satirical, and often tries so hard at being funny, it fails even that. Just an ok book.
