The Maze Runner is a 2009 young adult dystopian science fiction novel written by American author James Dashner and the first book released in The Maze Runner series. The novel was published on October 6, 2009, by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House, and was made into a 2014 major motion picture by 20th Century Fox, directed by Wes Ball.
Meh. It was fine. I enjoyed listening to it with my kid but it's not something I would have finished if it were just me. We'll be listening to the second one in the near future.
In this story, we begin with Thomas, a 16-year old boy, riding up an elevator to a place he doesn't know. He remembers very little to nothing of his previous life. When he arrives at his destination, it turns out that he's in an area called The Glade, inhabited by more teenage boys like him. Outside the walls of the glade is what is called The Maze. Everyone in the Glade has a job, and the most important one is that of the Runner, boys who map the dangerous maze outside in order to solve it, so that the boys can go back to their old life. The stakes of this game rise dramatically when just a couple days after Thomas' arrival a girl shows up in the elevator, proclaiming that the end has begun.

This book is written very well, and has an interesting cast of characters. I was a bit put off by the weird Glade dialect but I was definitely entertained throughout. The ending gave a hint of the dystopian world out there that gave birth to the Glade as experiment, and I thought that was fascinating. If you enjoy decent YA dystopia, you might enjoy this book as much as I did.
Pretty decent book. It was enjoyable, but it is funny that I thought the way the plot was structured in the movie was much more believable (outside of some crazy events).
This book is REALLY good. Thomas is a totally believable character with so many feeling like anyone I know in real life. I loved Thomas till the end. I really loved Teresa, too, being the only girl of the book and so brave and loveable. Newt's character is another gem of the book. I loved that guy so much! He was funny and he cared for Thomas so he gained my simpathy in a second. Minho is great too, being all strong and good.
The book has so many turns! And the ending was incredibly unexpected. I loved the book!
Only made it half way through. Maybe the problem was I read it right after Hunger Games and expected more? I need to give it another chance I think. Just not anytime soon.
