Profoundly and deliberately misguiding description of this book made me start it and my own mulish stubbornness made me finish it. You should know that this is actually a collection of short stories—each chapter introduces new characters with their own stories. The connecting thread is that it all happens at the time of the disappearance of the two girls, but otherwise has little or no connection to it all. Had it been described as the short story collection, I’d probably consider a better rating. The stories itself are a-OK, neither earth-shatteringly good nor specially bad. However, diving into the book with an expectation of a novel and getting disjointed pieces that don’t quite fit together instead is really disappointing. So is the ending which, despite its positive note, I find extremely unlikely.
