Aftermath : Star Wars : Journey to Star Wars

Aftermath's story is set in the years after the destruction of the second death star. The empire has fallen and the rebels are forming the new republic.

The empire tries to regroup in the outer rim, while a group of accidental by-passers tries to intervene. Of course, this group is an interesting collection of a bounty hunter, a rebel fighter pilot, an ex-imperial loyalty officer and a rebellious son. And it wouldn't be a Star Wars story if there wasn't a funny but deadly droid.

While this might not sound like an interesting premise, I think it fits perfectly in the Star Wars universe. The story itself was engaging and exciting.

I can understand some of the criticism for the book, yet I strongly believe that any Star Wars fan will very much enjoy this book.

Unfortunately this wasn't quite what I was expecting. A story starting right after Endor, you'd expect to hear more from the original characters. But they were only side comments. Along with it was a way too involved back story for the new characters, and interludes that had little or nothing to add. It just felt all over the place until 2/3rds the way through. Hope the movie makes things better.

The main storyline I enjoyed. New people, not trying to write what Luke does after he toasted dad.

What bothered me most was the little short POV stories in between. They were very non sequitur for me and with the, being interspersed like that very jarring.

Ending left room for more which is good, looking forward to seeing what this shapes for the movie and other titles.
