well... for me, "wards of faerie" has failed miserably to create any kind of ambient atmosphere of a fantasy adventure. i can't even explain why: formally, all the conponents of a decent story are there... but the way those are put together just doesn't "click".

Terry Brooks returns to the world of Shannarah, building from where we left Grianne Ohmsford in Straken.

Brooks greatest gift as an author has to be his use of description and world building. I found myself enjoying the way he describes the air ships and how they function and how his use of words pulls you in.

The story itself though, feels rehashed from some of his older material. Parts are very similar to the "High Druid" trilogy as well as the Elfstones of Shannara.

The characters are nothing new, just new names on old faces, and yet I found that even though this was so, it didn't detract from the story at all.

I think new comers to the World of Shannara, or old residents will enjoy this tale, however, fans of this series may not find anything new within these pages.
