Absolutely outstanding book.

16-year old Starr Carter is a black teenager who goes to a white school. One night she is witness to a cop killing her friend Khalil for no reason, and this event changes her whole life.

Absolutely engaging cast of characters, told in a gripping way, wish every teenager read this book. Or anyone really.

I don't have the words to praise this book enough.

This is a damn near perfect book. I can't say enough good things about it so I'm not even going to start. If you've been thinking about reading it, just read it.

I'm nervous to watch the film now though cause I'm not sure how it can capture the beauty of what I just read.

I had a rare experience while reading Angie Thomas's The Hate U Give. I was two-thirds of the way through the book and had to put it down and remind myself that this was a work of fiction. So real were the characters and enthralling the story that I had found myself completely captivated, not wanting to put it down for even one minute.

It is rare that a book ticks all of the boxes for me but The Hate U Give has it all - the characters are complex, diverse and well-developed; the story full of references to social and popular culture and the plot itself …
