Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body is a 2017 memoir by Roxane Gay, published on June 13, 2017, by HarperCollins in New York, New York. Gay has described Hunger as being "by far the hardest book I've ever had to write." The parentheses that encompass the word "my" in the title signifies the physical barrier of weight-gain that Gay has built for herself in response to her emotional trauma, and also "marks the difficulty of the bracketed female self and voice breaking out of its ambiguous armor."

This collection of essays broke my heart, but somehow at the same time provided comfort. The raw, unfiltered sharing of Roxane's thoughts rang true to a lot of my own throughout my years living as a fat woman in this world.

I held the book to my chest at different moments, having to take a beat while the words washed over me. Things I've absolutely thought but never said.

I so appreciated the vulnerability. Knowing other people are out there, experiencing things in such a similar fashion, really does make you feel less alone. Even if only for a moment
