4.5 out of 5 stars.

Out of the series, Cibola Burn has been my favorite, but this comes a close second, and I can't wait to learn more. Overall, the overarching story of the protomolecule's creators and their nemesis is what glues me to my seat. Persepolis Rising makes a bold move by moving the story 30 years forward, making old people out of all the main characters of the series. I especially loved seeing the changes in Bobbie. As usual, build-up was slow to medium-paced, but then there was action, it was awesome and tense. Bring it on, final two books of the series, let's see what the Laconian Empire is built upon.

Solid, but not fantastic. The stakes didn't feel all that high, or maybe because it was a bit of a retread of old ideas. First we had the Free Navy, now this... Maybe the authors are having a hard time figuring out who to be enemies next. With the Epilogue, I would assume this book was a setup for something though.... Just didn't have to do it for an entire book.
