The new novel in the New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series. No one's tried to kill Harry Dresden for almost an entire year, and his life finally seems to be calming down. For once, the future looks fairly bright. But the past casts one hell of a long shadow. An old bargain has placed Harry in debt to Mab, monarch of the Winter Court of the Sidhe, the Queen of Air and Darkness-and she's calling in her marker. It's a small favor he can't refuse...one that will trap Harry Dresden between a nightmarish foe and an equally deadly ally, and one that will strain his skills- and loyalties-to their very limits. It figures. Everything was going too well to last...

Not as interesting as the previous ones

3 stars

I wasn't as invested in this book as the previous ones. It sure is fun and full of action, but I guess I wasn’t in the mood for so much action all at once. I can see that this book will bring serious repercussions for the plot in the future. Harry Dresden is again pushed to his limits, with overpowering supernatural entities. I was worried about a particular character's future health, something I'll have to discover in the next book.

Probably the weakest Dresden in a while. The books have been getting more and more character driven and where this still had some, it also lacked any real meat. I also felt that as the bad guys are getting bigger and badder, it's becoming more and more unrealistic (I know... Urban FANTASY) in the realm of the universe previously setup.

For me, the Dresden Files work best when the overall arc comes together. Small Favor does well in that regard, bringing back a host of old 'friends', including the Knights Michael and Sanya, summer and winter sidhe, Denarians, Marcone, and the crew you have come to associate with participating in Dresden's adventures.

The final confrontation is excellently paced, probably among the best I have read in the series so far.

The plot thickens in Harry Dresden's world, and bad things are afoot.

As always, a fast and an enjoyable read.
