What happens when an overachieving psychologist with OCD tendencies and an impulsive, out-of-work actress start a fake relationship? Claire Renshaw thought she had it all: a successful career as a couples therapist, a publishing contract for her self-help book, and a happy relationship. But her perfect world falls apart when her fiancée calls off their engagement. Because of that, even her book deal might be off the table. After all, readers don’t want relationship advice from someone who can’t even make her own relationship work. So Claire sets out to hire herself a fake fiancée.

Lana Henderson, the actress who shows up to audition for the role, is not exactly Claire’s ideal woman. Her frankness and the messes she leaves everywhere drive Claire up the wall. At least she won’t fall in love with someone like Lana.

But soon, Lana starts to win her over with her big heart, tickle …

Reread April 2022: this is one of my favorite fake-romance stories (along with Who’d Have Thought by G. Benson and Mutual Benefits by HP Munro). Just for Show really highlights Jae’s skill writing strong characters with insecurities and self-doubts. Somehow I forgot how STEAMY this was, so it was nice to stumble into their “take me to bed” scene. I was invested in their happily ever after, but the story didn’t really get me in my Feelings(TM) - 4.5 stars

Sept 2020: this is the second book by Jae that I’ve read, and I enjoyed the polar opposites vibe between Claire and Lana. I appreciated Lana’s … everything, but especially enjoyed the way she slowly unravels the tight grip Claire has on every aspect of her life.

I loved Claire and Lana. I especially loved Claire and Lana together. Mostly I loved Lana. But Claire got in there by mid-book.

Stuff I loved: humor, chemistry, the strangers to true love thing, Claire's family, all the good squishy feels that the growing relationship gave me.

Stuff I didn't love: cameos from many characters appearing in the Hollywood series.

I loved lots more than I didn't love. And I'll likely read it again.

Would rate it 4.5 if I could but dropped it down because of the cameos that rubbed me the wrong way.
