The Guncle

Patrick could have easily turned in to a caricature of a gay white man, but each Guncle Rule pulls out more humanity and connection. The kids were well developed and acted appropriately for young children who are unexpectedly taken in by G.U.P. It’s sweet, sassy, emotional, and uplifting. Sometimes we need to get tossed out of our comfort zones to see what we haven’t lost and what we can gain.

Did I enjoy this story? Yes. I didn't really connect with any of the characters though. I really adored the premise behind it of Patrick helping his nephew and niece overcome their grief while helping himself work through his. You could definitely feel the shift from Patrick being annoyed at having the kids dumped on him to caring about them. I don't regret reading it, but it's not one that I'll be temped to pick up again in the future.
