A fantastic story with rich complex characters. Hamilton's ability to build worlds is remarkable, and this book is no exception. Go from Earth to a world full of complex biological technology, to a world going through the extensive process of terraforming, to a world similar to a tropical earth paradise, and finally, into a truly alien environment. The descriptions of near future technologies is well done. This stand alone book is well worth a read.
