Dubi reviewed The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante

It's hard for me to even explain why I enjoyed this book and this entire series. Throughout the read it felt as if the author, through narrator Elena Graco's own words, was mocking her. She kept mischaracterizing events even as she gives enough details for the reader to be able to tell what's actually going on (the romance berween Bruno and whoever it was on Ischia being the most obvious example). I wouldn't say she hates her own protagonist, but she certainly doesn't seem to think very highly of her, and this makes for an often annoying read, albeit an enticing one.
Nevertheless, I liked these books enough to read them almost in succession, so I guess that says something...
