""Orphan X is the most gripping, high-octane thriller I've read in a long, long time. Hang onto your seat because Gregg Hurwitz will take you on a dizzying ride you'll not soon forget!" -Tess Gerritsen The Nowhere Man is a legendary figure spoken about only in whispers. It's said that when he's reached by the truly desperate and deserving, the Nowhere Man can and will do anything to protect and save them. But he's no legend. Evan Smoak is a man with skills, resources, and a personal mission to help those with nowhere else to turn. He's also a man with a dangerous past. Chosen as a child, he was raised and trained as part of the off-the-books black box Orphan program, designed to create the perfect deniable intelligence assets--i.e. assassins. He was Orphan X. I'd go 3.5 if I could. This was a pretty dang enjoyable book. It was no more believable than a Hollywood action flick but just as fun.
We have our emotionally damaged super assassin who helps those who really need it, one at a time. So when he ends up with two - which shouldn't ever happen - he has to figure out who is the plant and why he's a target for assassination, himself.
Of course, there has to be some suspension of disbelief since Evan is damn near perfect and has the coolest gadgets ever. None of that took away from me having a very good time reading it. I ended up feeling for the guy and truly wanting him to succeed and to find some people to connect with. Hopefully in a way that won't get him - or them - killed though. I guess I'll find …

I guess I'll find out how that works out in the next book in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley for hooking me up. I'll be diving into the next two books - also thanks to NetGalley - soon.
Really enjoyed this. It is slightly different from Hurwitz previous books, but still maintained the great prose, the crippling pace, and the fantastic story. Knowing this is now a series, it will be fun to keep up with the Orphan X and see what he has planned for the future.
Only thing that I am not excited about is due to Evan's situation, it does make the the character maintain a sad tone. I hope Hurwitz does find a way to give him some true happiness.
