Review of 'Red Mars' on 'Goodreads'

I struggled to read this and tried to like it.

Not because it was a bad book. It’s an excellent book and I see why it is an award winner.

The problem is the people in this book are the worst of us and you could see exactly how what happens in this book is happening now. Not one of the characters has much of a redeeming quality. The one idealist in the bunch gets murdered in the opening chapter even.

I normally breeze through a book but I could barely read a chapter before I had to put it down. Just couldn’t like anyone in the book and the world they live in isn’t one I wanted to be a part of.
