This is a fine book. Fast paced, amusing writing. But lacking somewhat in character development. Not that Dashiell Hammett characters had compelling story arcs. Pulp detective stories don't often. So, yeah, fine. Enjoyable even. But there's not much there.

I love Pargin's writing, and have since I first read him on Cracked.com many years ago. The Zoey Ashe series is maniacally funny while also doing some good work delivering a view of the difficulty and nuance of human existence. But I swear to any available gods, he reverse engineered this book just to get to a scenario where it would be plausible for a flying dismembered penis to smack someone in the face.
