Backwards to Oregon has such an interesting history... origins as Xena uberfic and originally written in the early 2000s.

I think the story itself is incredible because there are so many aspects of it to give most readers something to latch onto - slowwww burn romance, US historical fiction, well-developed and dynamic characters, colorful side characters, horses, an exploration of gender, sexuality, freedom, and womanhood.

These things keep me coming back to this series despite feeling its age and knowing how Jae's writing style has changed. The story of Luke and Nora's journey to Oregon is unique and special to me, and I notice new details every time I reread it.
