Influential but bad

A time capsule of the period, Weber got most of the history wrong and invented "the Protestant Work Ethic," which wasn't a common idea before this book. Nevertheless, American protestants liked being told that they're better than everyone else and deserve all the wealth in the world; a century later, the idea is now a real part of US culture and protestant theology.

I checked this out for the gargoyle romance. The main characters are cops, one realistic and one paranormal. The pulpy writing was fun. Warnings: attempted and mentioned NC from a villain in the climactic fight, and a reveal that the main characters only liked each other initially because of mind altering magic (DC).
