Wanted to start reading again after a very long period of only reading tech-related things, as well as doomscrolling.

Used to enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, classical and other literature — though was reading almost only in Russian, now trying to read some things in English as well — much more choices, but quite a slower pace of reading for me, haha.

started reading The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive, #1)

Brandon Sanderson: The Way of Kings (Hardcover, 2010, Tor)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings, book one …

A recommendation from my wife.

Read a few chapters — start is quite overwhelming, with a lot of world-building going on, but then alter when the second main character's PoV was introduced, it became much more interesting.

Megan Lindholm: Luck of the Wheels (2002, Voyager) No rating

Ooof. That's one complex book, and a complicated one to consider, especially as the last one in the series.

Would certainly need to think about it a bunch, and not yet sure how I feel.

The least favourite one from all four, the cruelest. Would probably talk more when would find the time to properly rate it, and would then write with spoilers, but without them it is hard to tell what exactly didn't sit with me well.

Decided to try using — want to start reading more, and it is interesting to see how a federated service would work for this.

Like it so far. A few notes:

- When you rate something (separately from reviewing), it spawns a separate notification, so in this case it is better to mark it private — rating would still be visible on your other comments for the book.

- UI is a bit slow, but eh, I don't hurry anywhere these days.

- I'm @kizu@bookrastinating.com there, just in case.

- Recommend me a book!

Megan Lindholm: Harpy's Flight (1982, Ace Books)

Read as a recommendation from my wife — the book didn't disappoint at all. Very interesting unusual fantasy world, quite isolated and refreshingly non-epic story, likeable but flawed characters, even some seemingly sci-fi elements? Overall, a good start to the short series.

Megan Lindholm: The Windsingers (2002, Voyager)

I think this was my favorite book in the series — expands on the world a bit, introduced some new characters, had rather interesting pacing switching between two characters — don't remember if there was anything that I disliked.

As with the first book, some glimpses of unknown and not-your-traditional fantasy were present, making it quite a fresh look at how these kinds of stories could be told.

Megan Lindholm: The Limbreth Gate (1984, Ace)

I think I liked this one a bit less than the second book in the series — maybe would write one day the exact reasons why.

Overall, really liked some of the unusual elements and the potential ways things could be interpreted — as with the previous books in this world, things got quite weird, maybe even weirder than before.

So far, I like it less than previous books in the series, but we'll see — the final impression could depend a lot on how it would end, especially given it is the last book in the series.

(Actually, don't remember when exactly I did start reading it, almost finished it — but won't change the date, as I really don't remember, haha.)
