Review of 'The Southern Book Clubs Guide to Slaying Vampires' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
This is hard to rate because the story was written well and made me angry at the accurate portrayal of how the south was in the 90s. War on drugs being overblown, ritalin was being over-prescribed, and edgy nazi kids being...problematic. The antagonist was like a waspy douche who felt like the old white guys who looked down on you because your mom didn't have a husband or whatever. I also felt like the one black character was being thrown under the bus constantly. I like the nostalgia parts but don't like the parts that feel like inaction for the sake of societal expectations. The ending was pretty good, though.
