Mostly sapphic romance, YA, sci-fi, fantasy, but I'll try most genres of fiction (except horror). Would probably read more graphic novels, but most of them don't display too well on my e-reader.

Claire Winn: City of Shattered Light (2021, North Star Editions)

As heiress to a powerful tech empire, seventeen-year-old Asa Almeida strives to prove she’s more …

Pretty good; engaging enough that I read it in a day.

I had a hard time suspending disbelief re: the technobabble in this book (more so than usual with scifi) and could have done without the secondary potential romantic interest, but it was still a pretty fun read and I was invested enough in the characters and their struggles that I found it hard to put down.

Seemed like the primary conflict was going to be "society says we can't be together so we'll try to fall for people we don't like as much" and I just wasn't in the mood for it this past week. Maybe some other time; it was pretty amusing.

Wait, Meryl Wilsner has a book that I haven't read? Must rectify this situation post-hate!

I don't tend to like historical sapphic romance as much as contemporary, but this one is pretty amusing so far.

Brianna R. Shrum, Sara Waxelbaum: Margo Zimmerman Gets the Girl (2023, Harlequin Enterprises ULC)

Margo Zimmerman is gay, but she didn’t know until now. An overachiever at heart, Margo …

Hilarious & sweet YA sapphic romance w/ neurodiverse cast

Fun, quick read. Might even read again.

I appreciated that homophobia wasn't one of the major issues, even for a queer romance set in Florida. (Nothing wrong with writing about homophobia, but I think other books in the genre cover it plenty and variety is good!) Instead the book focused more on imposter syndrome, neurodivergence, biphobia, Margo's search for an identity in the queer community that fits her, and Abbie's struggle with her family's issues. Oh, and the classic sapphic "does she want to be friends or girlfriends" dilemma.

Looking at that list, it seems like this could be a really serious and intense book, but instead I was laughing every couple pages. Margo & Abbie are hilarious, Margo's family pets are absurd, and Manny & Robbie the extremely sincere feminist sports bros are "Too good for this world."

Olivia Atwater: Small Miracles (Paperback, 2022, Olivia Atwater)

A little bit of sin is good for the soul.

Gadriel, the fallen angel …

Loved this so much I read it twice, and then read it aloud to my partner, and then read it again.

That might partly be because it's got a genderfluid character, but it's also just so much fun!
