James Baldwin: Going to meet the man (1995, Vintage Books) 4 stars

African-American fiction

Powerful series of stories

This book was my introduction to James Baldwin. The most striking part of the book for me was the title because it felt more fitting and resonant than most. White patriarchy imposes itself throughout all of the short stories in the collection, albeit mostly from a distance, until the final story where the man is tragically and horrifically met.
